Destination Thailand Visa evidence guide
DTV visa document checklist: build the file for your actual route
A DTV application is not one form plus a bank screenshot. Start with the Thai mission responsible for your filing location, then build separate evidence for workcation, soft power, or an officially supported dependant. The checklist below is a preparation framework; the responsible mission's current list controls.
Before you gather documents, identify the mission and the route
Use the official Thai e-Visa DTV page and the Thai embassy or consulate instructions for the country where you are eligible to file. Do not copy a checklist from another jurisdiction and assume it applies to you.
- Confirm that the mission accepts applications from someone with your nationality and current residence status.
- Choose the purpose that your real evidence supports: workcation, soft-power activity, medical treatment, or an officially supported dependant application.
- Save the mission's current checklist and record the date you checked it.
- Read its rules for statement periods, translations, certification, uploads, local official fees, and extra documents.
Common DTV document stack
Current official embassy examples commonly organise the file around identity, current location, finances, and purpose. Check every item against your responsible mission.
| Category | Prepare | Mission-specific check |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Passport biodata page or travel document | Required validity, blank pages, scan quality, and any prior-passport request |
| Photograph | Recent applicant photograph | Age of photo, dimensions, background, and file format |
| Current location | Evidence showing where you are applying from | Whether lawful residence evidence is required and which documents are accepted |
| Financials | Savings or checking statements showing the required balance | Statement period, account ownership, currency, sponsorship, and explanation of transfers |
| Purpose | Workcation, activity, medical, or dependant evidence | Exact letter content, provider evidence, dates, and supporting records |
| Local additions | Any accommodation, travel, translation, or certification records | The responsible mission's current list and upload rules |
Put the applicant's name, passport details, employment or activity story, and dates side by side before uploading. A technically complete file can still be confusing if those details conflict.
Workcation checklist: overseas employee or freelancer
The workcation route is built around remote professional activity outside Thailand. The DTV is not a Thai work permit and does not authorise work for a Thai employer.
Overseas employee file
- Employment contract or employment certificate listed by the responsible mission.
- Employer's legal name, country, and contact details shown consistently.
- Your job title, employment status, and role described in plain language.
- Remote-work permission or work-location context where the mission requests it.
- Compensation evidence only in the form and scope the mission requests.
- Financial statements prepared separately; an employment letter does not replace the funds requirement.
Freelancer or independent professional file
- Professional portfolio, which current official embassy examples list as route evidence.
- A clear description of the services you provide and where the clients are located.
- Active contracts or engagement letters if accepted by the responsible mission.
- Invoices and matching payment history where useful and permitted to show genuine activity.
- Business registration or tax records only where relevant to your real setup and requested.
- An index connecting portfolio examples to commercial evidence without exposing unnecessary client data.
Soft-power and medical evidence checklist
Soft-power evidence proves the Thai activity that explains the stay. It is not interchangeable with overseas employment evidence.
Activity or programme file
- Acceptance or enrolment letter from the institute or company organising the activity.
- Provider's full legal/contact details and the programme location.
- Activity name, expected dates, schedule, and duration where requested.
- Booking or payment evidence if the filing post asks for it.
- Any provider registration, licence, or supporting record specifically requested by the mission.
Medical-treatment file
- Appointment or acceptance letter from the hospital or medical centre.
- Provider and facility details matching the appointment evidence.
- Treatment timing and other medical documentation only to the extent the mission requests.
- Privacy-conscious file handling for sensitive medical records.
Current official examples mention activities such as Muay Thai and Thai culinary training, as well as medical treatment. A course, camp, clinic, booking, or payment is not an approval guarantee. The mission can request more evidence or decide that the submitted purpose is not sufficiently supported.
Financial evidence: show the requirement in the format your post asks for
The baseline published by current official sources is THB 500,000, or an accepted equivalent, in savings/checking evidence. The document period and treatment of family accounts or sponsorship are not uniform.
| Official post checked 23 July 2026 | Published financial wording in practical terms | Do not generalise |
|---|---|---|
| Washington, D.C. | Recent savings/checking statements for the last three months, with the stated minimum ending balance shown for each month | The three-month rule is evidence for this post, not proof of every post's rule |
| Helsinki | A recent savings/checking statement with the stated minimum ending balance | Check the live post for the exact statement period and residence rules |
Financial-file review
- Use complete, readable statements showing the account holder, dates, currency, and transactions requested.
- Confirm whether every relevant month must meet the threshold.
- Check how the post converts foreign currency and leave room for exchange-rate movement.
- Confirm whether family statements or sponsorship are accepted and what relationship proof is required.
- Explain large recent transfers honestly if the mission requests source context.
- Do not rely on a cropped balance screenshot, temporary cash parking, borrowed funds, or edited records.
Dependant checklist: spouse and children under 20
Current official Washington and Helsinki DTV pages list a spouse and children under 20 of a DTV holder. Do not assume that unmarried partners, parents, or adult children fit this category.
A dependant file may need:
- The dependant's passport biodata page and recent photograph.
- Current-location or lawful-residence evidence required by the filing post.
- Marriage, birth, or adoption records proving the qualifying relationship.
- Certified translations, notarisation, or legalisation where the post requires them.
- The main DTV holder's passport details and DTV approval.
- Financial evidence in the form required by that mission.
- Minor-consent or parent/guardian records where applicable.
Mission-specific checks people miss
Re-open the responsible Thai embassy, consulate, or e-Visa instructions immediately before submitting and answer each of these questions:
- Am I allowed to file from this country with my current residence status?
- How many months of bank statements are required, and must each month meet the balance?
- Are family accounts or sponsorship accepted, and what proof links the parties?
- Which documents need translation, certification, notarisation, or legalisation?
- Does the post request accommodation, itinerary, interview, or extra local evidence?
- What are the current upload format and file-size limits?
- What is the local official fee, currency, payment method, and refund rule?
- Does the post publish special requirements for minors or non-citizen residents?
Do not treat a fee, statement period, or additional-document rule from one post as a global DTV rule.
Final consistency and file-quality review
- Create a one-page index using plain, numbered file names.
- Match the spelling and order of names to the passport and civil records.
- Check that employer, client, provider, bank, and date information tells one coherent story.
- Remove duplicate drafts and make sure every scan is complete and readable.
- Translate or certify documents exactly as the responsible mission instructs.
- Save a copy of the submitted application and every supporting file.
- Be ready to provide genuine additional documents if the mission requests them.
A clean index helps review, but presentation cannot repair an ineligible purpose or missing evidence. Submission does not guarantee approval, and a mission may ask for an interview or additional records.
What this checklist does not prove
A DTV is not a Thai work permit. Workcation evidence supports eligible overseas remote work or freelance activity; it does not convert Thai employment into permitted work. If a Thai company will employ or pay you, get advice on the appropriate non-immigrant visa and work-permit route before starting.

DTV visa document checklist FAQ
Is there one official DTV document checklist for every country?
No. The Thai e-Visa route provides the official starting point, but the responsible Thai embassy or consulate can publish local evidence, residence, translation, fee, and upload requirements. Use the current list for the mission where you are eligible to file.
Is a screenshot showing THB 500,000 enough?
Do not assume so. Current official posts ask for savings/checking statements, and the required period varies. Washington currently asks for three months with the threshold shown for each month, while Helsinki publishes different wording. Follow your post's live rule.
What should a freelancer include?
Current official examples accept a professional portfolio as route evidence. Where the responsible post permits, genuine contracts, invoices, client context, and matching payment records can help show that the overseas activity is active and coherent.
Does paying for a Muay Thai or cooking course guarantee a DTV?
No. The provider, programme, acceptance evidence, and the mission's current requirements all matter. A booking or payment is not an approval guarantee.
Can my partner apply as my dependant?
Current official sources support a spouse and children under 20. Do not assume an unmarried partner qualifies. A spouse application still needs the identity, relationship, financial, and main-holder evidence required by the responsible mission.
Does a DTV let me work for a Thai employer?
No. The DTV is not a Thai work permit. Thai-employer work requires a separate immigration and work-permission route.
